The Ground Rules

To win a game, any game, a player needs to know the rules of that game. To be a successful X Detective, you need to know, and work within, the rules of our organization. The number one rule is something we call, Fair and Square. The Fair and Square rule simply states:

Do unto one side of an equation what you do to the other.

In your quest to find the infamous Agent X, clues and other important information may be hidden in mathematical equations. When solving these equations, you may use any mathematical operation available to you. The only restriction is that you must apply that operation to both sides of the equation. Fair and Square.

If you encounter an equality such as:

5 = 5

You can
add 2000 to both sides,
subtract 4 from both sides,
multiply both sides by 300,
divide each side by 10,
square or cube each side,
square root each side,
raise each side to the power of 75,
or do any combination of operations
and you will still have two equal sides.

Why?

Because you played Fair and Square.
